Mobile network sites

Telstra, Optus and TPG report the location of their mobile network sites to the ACCC, with the technologies and bands each one carries and whether a government program helped fund it. It publishes them once a year as one spreadsheet per operator. This puts the four files into one schema, places every record in its local government area, and adds a radius search, so a question like "which sites lie within 10 km of this fire" is one call. Pass a site's coordinates to /incidents/nearby to see what is happening around it.

Coverage
29,485 operator site records at 17,735 distinct site IDs, from the 2026 release (as at 31 January 2026), measured 2026-10-15. By operator: Telstra 12,175, Optus 9,499, TPG 5,262, Optus-TPG shared network 2,549. A record is one operator at one site, so a tower shared by three networks counts three times, and the shared-network records repeat Optus sites. Records in the ABS Other Territories (Christmas Island and Jervis Bay Territory) carry no state and are found by radius or LGA, and five records on water or offshore, where the council boundaries stop at the coast, carry neither and are found by radius only.
Freshness
A reference layer, not a feed. The ACCC releases one snapshot a year, describing the networks as at 31 January, and the layer is reloaded when it does. A site built or removed since then will not show until the next release.
Provenance
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Mobile Infrastructure Report data release, under CC BY 2.5 AU. State and LGA are added by DataQuoll from the ABS 2022 boundaries. Listed at /api/v1/attribution.
Access
